Krissa Lebacqz, counseling trainee and morning meeting coordinator, spoke on Thursday about practicing mindfulness. She referenced The Bay School mission, which stresses “a mindful approach to learning and life,” as well as studies that show a correlation between mindfulness and stress-reduction, focus and the ability to deal with difficult emotions. Through her personal experience with mindfulness practice, Krissa has come to feel “more fully alive, aware, present, free and in reality.”
“In mindfulness meditation,” she reminded us, “we don’t try to change our state as some other meditations do; mindfulness is about noticing and being present with what is actually true.”
