Spring Sports Update: Boys Tennis vs. Urban

Senior Brooks Carman returns to the blog with an update on Bay’s varsity sports teams, reporting on boys tennis’ win over Urban on March 18.

Boys TennisJunior Arun Desai got Bay’s boys varsity tennis team pumped up pre-match in the team huddle Wednesday afternoon before a match against The Urban School of San Francisco.

His enthusiasm worked, giving the Bay boys tennis team a victory by a score of three matches to two.

The three Bay singles players swept Urban’s, with senior Brooks Carman winning 6-2 6-3, junior Arun Desai winning 6-0 6-0 and junior Mark Gross also winning in straight-sets with a 6-1 6-2 victory. However, while Bay singles did not give up a Boys Tennissingle set to Urban, Ben Swan and Zachary Gonzalez’s doubles two team almost pulled out a win, going three sets and barely losing in the end.

Bay tennis definitely made a statement in their first league match with a strong win over Urban, the team that knocked Bay out of the playoffs last year by a similarly close score, except in Urban’s favor. Bay and Urban, who split their series 1-1 last year, showed once again that they are evenly talented teams; as with last year, the margin of victory was only one match. Now, Bay looks to continue the season strongly in order to secure a playoff spot.
