Conversations: Colin on the Mexico Murals Project

Freshmen in Humanities 1A have been working hard to understand bias. All through the Mexico unit, students have considered how different artists, writers and historians have seen the world. In their culminating assignment, students collaborated to make a Diego Rivera-style mural that shows how they themselves see Mexican history. They depicted the pre-Columbian period of the Aztecs and Maya, the Spanish conquest of those realms and subsequent colonial life and the Mexican Revolution that transformed the country. The students used a range of media, but the murals all serve as visual theses about Mexican history.
