What do you get when you combine passionate and driven Bay students with a meaningful cause? You get an act of RESPECT!
Earlier this fall, Cody ’19, with the help of other Bay students and Staffulty, took action to educate peers and the community about the San Francisco based non-profit organization, Futures Without Violence (FWV). This activist group, whose offices are located just across the Main Post of the Presidio from Bay, has a mission to prevent violence and abuse against women, children and families throughout the world.
FWV launched a campaign called The RESPECT! Challenge to promote healthy relationships for teenagers through positive role models. Cody accepted this challenge and led the charge to have Bay students lay on the Green Space in front of the school and spell RESPECT with their bodies. Cody created a short video of this event and submitted it with the following entry:
“I and 18 fellow Bay School of San Francisco students along with my mom, my soccer coach and my Advisor, spelled out RESPECT on the lawn of the Presidio in San Francisco to inspire teens across America to give respect and accept nothing less than respect in return. I chose these people because they are shaping the person I am and the person I am becoming.”
His powerful entry was accepted and Cody was named an Honorable Mention Winner of this challenge. On behalf of FWV and Macy’s, the campaign’s National Founding Sponsor, Cody was awarded a $1500 cash prize designated to the organization of his choice. Cody chose The Bay School of San Francisco as the beneficiary of these funds and in a special Morning Meeting presentation, a representative from FWV presented Cody and Head of School, Luke Felker, with the check and thanked Cody for his work to prevent violence and abuse for all.
