Spring Sports Update: Bay Lacrosse vs. San Rafael

For his Senior Signature Project, senior Brooks Carman will be reporting on Bay’s varsity sports teams. Check out his first update on the March 6 varsity lacrosse game.

Lacrosse Season Opener Spring 2015 from Patrick Morris (7)Led by senior Ben Purtell, Bay Lacrosse scored twice in the first two minutes against San Rafael High School and held on to earn its first win of the season by a final score of 8-6.

Ben made half of Bay’s goals, scoring two in the first quarter and two in the third. He also assisted on two other tallies, which ultimately helped Bay win by two on Friday night.

Bay started out the halves well, outscoring San Rafael 7-1 in the first and third quarters combined to ensure that the Breakers would never trail. While San Rafael turned the tables in the even-numbered quarters, topping Bay 5-1 in the second and fourth, its comeback bid was unsuccessful thanks to the large leads the Breakers built.

Bay’s defense, led by senior goalie Addison Kuth, had a great game, giving up only six goals. Addison blocked a lot of the shots that came his way, at one point blocking three in a row in the third quarter, but there weren’t many opportunities for the Breakers’ opposition. Between Bay’s offense having possession for the majority of the game and the Breakers’ tenacious defense not letting the Bulldogs get through, San Rafael was not able to take many high-quality shots.

San Rafael was able to get through the defense to score three goals in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late. Bay led by four going into the final period, and sophomore Ryan Treais tacked on another goal early on to help the Breakers cruise to the final whistle.
