The Painting 1B students are looking at fur, feathered, and scaled creatures. The hawk, turtle, raccoon, and owl that are in the studio are on loan from the Lindsay Nature Museum located in Walnut Creek. The artists have stretched their own canvases – one canvas is 12 x 12 inches, and the other is 20 x 20 inches. In preparation for the paintings, students have been sketching on both newsprint and drawing paper using charcoal, graphite, and gesso to map out ideas and figure out which specimen to work with. The next step is to begin blocking in forms and developing underpainting on the canvases.
Please feel free to come by the studio to see the process pieces.
